Pamamalo pwede pa rin matapos i-veto ni Digong na gawing krimen ang corporal punishment

NA-veto ni Pangulong Duterte ang isang panukalang batas na naglalayong gawing krimen ang pagpapataw ng mga magulang ng corporal punishment sa kani-kanilang anak.

Sa veto message ni Duterte na ipinadala sa Senado at Kamara, iginiit ni Duterte na dapat respetuhin ang karapatan ng mga magulang sa pagdidisiplina sa kanilang mga anak.

Sa ilalim ng Senate Bill 1477 at House Bill 8239, ipinagbabawal ang anumang klase ng parusa at pagdidisiplina gamit ang pisikal na pananakit at “nonphysical act that causes a child to feel belittled, denigrated, threatened, or ridiculed”.

Layon sana ng panukala na isulong ang positibo pagdidisiplina na hindi gumagamit ng dahas.

“I am aware of the growing trends in Western nations that see all forms of corporal punishment as an outdated form of disciplining children,” sabi ni Duterte sa kanyang veto message. 

“I strongly believe that we should resist this trend in favor of a more balanced and nuanced approach, which is both protective of the child but recognizing the right of parents who believe in the merits of corporal punishment, properly administered,” giit ni Duterte.
