UNIVERSITY of Sto. Tomas Galvanize knew that there was a heavy pressure under their skin, particularly on how they are going to defend their title going into the UAAP Season 81 Streetdance competition juniors division.
Add to that the very short training of the squad which lasted only for three weeks due to prior competitions they participated in.
But the Galvanize easily shrugged that off and looked so calm once they started to sway their hands and feet, finishing the routine as if there’s no great expectations waiting for them en route to a back-to-back titles on Saturday at the Araneta Coliseum.
UST earned 80.10 points from a concept that came from its own turf- the UST Yellow Jackets and the Salinggawi Dance Troupe.
“Gusto ko sa na i-bring yung lahat ng elements that represents UST. Actually, collaborative effort to eh from Salinggawi, Yellow Jacket, senior high, everyone in the UST community,” coach Jan Matthew Almodovar merrily said as his Galvanize beat University of the East and Far Eastern University for the sweet victory.
The UE Streeet Varsity Team finished second with 74.50 points in a rainbow-colored costume that signifies the unique personality of each member while the FEU Baby Tamaraws Dance Company, who fell at third place by just a hair strand with 74.45 points, mirrored their seniors’ military concept.
National University Underdawgz, Zobel Dance Company, UPIS BLK and Adamson Cauldron Dance Company executed well their routines but were not worthy enough to make it to the top three.
